Train-Interlaken |
We
left for Interlaken on the Golden
Pass Panoramic train - one of the 5
panoramic trains in Switzerland. The journey was
going to be 3 hrs and the view simply wonderful -
llots of greenery , lakes,
small typical Swiss chalets/houses with flowers
outside every window, mountains with waterfalls
from melting snow ,huge pastures, a lot of vineyards
and sometimes even Swiss cows. The train
has a few stops on the way. All the train
stations in Switzerland are small - just one or
two platforms.. Only big cities like Zurich,
Luzern, Geneva have big stations with many
platforms. The Golden Pass train brought us to
Interlaken Ost (East) station. Our hotel was
close to Interlaken West station which we took a
while to find out. We
also spent some time at the information booth
(only one window :( ) to inquire about Interlaken
and make reservations to Jungfraujoch. We then
took a bus (no. 1) to Interlaken West station.
Our hotel was just opposite hence we didn't have
to walk much. Interlaken West is where all the
life of the town is. All the hustle bustle of
tourists, traffic. All major hotels are situated
close to this West station . The station itself
is very small just one platform. There are a few
buses which leave from outside the station.
Infact one doesn't understand what to call inside
station and what is to be called outside station
. There is no proper demarcation of the station
and bus depot. We reached our hotel(Best
Western Bernhof) in about 2 mins.
Since rooms would be ready only by 2pm we
deposited our bags and went to have lunch. After
we got our rooms we freshened up and played cards
for some time. Then while Aai and Sandeep watched
the filming we had already done I went out for a
stroll in city. The area we were in had a lot of
shops selling the now usual stuff - Swiss cow
bells, watches, dolls and chocolates. There
were also a number of shops selling local
handicrafts--a lot of handmade wooden toys and
also cloth handkerchiefs ,tablecloths etc with
embroidery on them. One common factor in all
items is the flower "Edelweiss" which
is either painted or embroidered onto each item. The
"Edelweiss"
has the status of an unofficial national flower. After
coming back to hotel Sandeep and myself again
went out strolling towards Interlaken Ost station
while Aai- Baba rested at hotel. As we walked
towards station we saw a promenade which was
lined with flowers all along the way. The
promenade also gave a magnificent view of the Junfrau
peak. Coming back to hotel we all
once again went out for dinner at an Indian
restaurant "Spice India". Back to hotel
for sleep and rest.
