Impressions of Switzerland

24th July -Geneva

We took the Golden Pass Express once again to Montreaux. From Montreax we took a general train (no panoramic train) to Geneva. The Golden Pass Express route was also very scenic . One thing I distinctly remember about this route were Sunflower fields and miles and miles of them. So also were a lot of vineyards. Once you reach Geneva a distinct change is observed -- all signs at stations change from German to French. This western part of Switzerland is French influenced while the eastern part is German influenced. English is anyway understood everywhere but at Geneva we did come across some people who know only French. Geneva is a big city like Zurich. Geneva has many distinguished organization buildings like the united nations and the international committee of red cross. We got fresh and then went out for lunch at burger king. We then took a tram and went to see Jet d'Eau. This is a fountain - a jet of water springs out and goes up about 140 mtrs. This is around Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). There was also a Flower Clock in the English Garden (Jardin d'anglais). We sat there for a while had ice-cream and returned to hotel. As Aai- Baba were tired they sat at the hotel while we bought dinner for them. We both then went out strolling , had dinner at a Chinese restaurant along with some french wine. Just strolling after dinner we found a cyber cafe . You cannot stay away from internet for long... we got in and paid for 1/2 hr (3 CHF ) and checked all our mails which had been pending for so many days. Back home.

25th July -Geneva

Next morning Sandeep and myself went to see the Chillon Castle at Montreaux. Aai - Baba were going to be resting at the hotel. The Chillon Castle was not according to our expectations. Probably we had something else in mind our expectations were too high. To tell a little about the castle - it is from 13th century and in pretty good shape. It has a lot of history behind it which I don't intend to write here.Pizza for lunch and back to hotel by train. We had "falafel" a Mediterranean dish, for dinner that night. We were too tired to see Jet d'Eau in the night with illumination and went off to bed.
