Impressions of Switzerland

26th July -Zermatt

We took a train to Zermatt with a change at Visp. Zermatt is a very nice small village in the valley between the mountains.Like a hill-station - our very Matheran for example. There are no cars no buses here. Only means of transport are foot and horse drawn carriages. Hotels there ply small electric carts only looking like a car. The Zermatt station (Bahnhof) is very nice. All buildings around are wood and have beautiful flowers in each window. The hotel cart took us to our hotel - Hotel Butterfly. We got fresh and then went out for late lunch of spaghetti and pasta. Sandeep and myself then went to see the Riffelsee Lake. We had to take a small cog-wheel train. It climbed the steep mountains and gave a beautiful view of Zermatt below and the Matterhorn peak above. We got down at Riffelberg station and started following signs to lake but got nowwhere. The climb was quite tiring. We abandoned the search of the lake and returned to the station to take a train back to Zermatt.
